Hairstyles? The Main Event

Curl it. Braid it. Gather it up, or simply let it down. Whatever we do with it, whether our world revolves around it or not, our hairs would always play a significant role in our overall appearance. Ordinary people like us often find ourselves gawking at celebrities' pictures, seeing them sashaying down the red carpet during awards night or movie premieres. Aside from their stunning or ridiculous designer outfits, we usually also pay close attention to their hair-dos.

Remember Demi Moore in “Ghost?” The romantic chick flick where she played the lead female role was not the only one that turned out to be a hit. Her short, gamine-style haircut had literally swept over the world, spawning millions of Demi hair-look-alikes walking the streets. Nowadays, when it comes to great hairstyles, Jennifer Aniston and Nicole Kidman have become household names with one out of ten girls showing their pictures whenever they paid their hairstylists a visit. Because they're faces are ubiquitous, celebrities serve as the ultimate icons when it comes to great looks and hairstyles to match. But in some instances, rather than inspire public awe, some celebrities earn our laughs, and at times, mockery.

Some celebrities who were seen sporting some of the craziest hairstyles are Cher, Kelly Osbourne, Pink, Patricia Arquette, Erykah Badu, Amy Winehouse, Selma Blair, and Courtney Love. Most of them had hairs that looked like a science experiment gone awry. If you ask me, I would never be caught dead having any of those hairstyles. Although I'm unfortunate to have more than my fair share of bad hair days, I would never trade my locks for theirs. Others may want to copy looks for whatever personal reasons. As for me, I'm better off with this mop of hair on my head, thank you.

Amy Winehouse and Her Angry Beehive

Amy Winehouse Hairstyles

We've all heard of Amy Winehouse. I mean, who hasn't? She's one of the great musicians of our time. With a few hit songs and sold-out concerts under her belt, not to mention the various awards she's earned, Amy Winehouse is popular world wide. However, the only recent news I've heard about her concerns her battle with substance abuse and her tacky fashion sense.

Speaking of her tacky fashion sense, I kind of think that it's brought about by her substance abuse. She always appears to be too doped up to care how she looks when she goes out in public. I mean, look at her crazy hair. Who sports a beehive, anyway? Aside from Marge Simpson, I mean.

Well, I guess maybe there are some people crazy enough to want to copy Amy Winehouse's beehive do. I've checked out some hairstyling guides and found some tips that can help you achieve Ms. Winehouse's angry beehive look, like:

  • Beehive hairdos are easier to achieve if hair has not been shampooed for a day or two.
  • This kind of hairdo works best with shoulder-length hair, even more with longer hair.
  • Ladies with shorter hair can add hair extensions to make it possible to style their hair ala-Amy Winehouse.
  • Ladies can use a pre-formed nest to add volume and height to their beehive.
  • Hair should be blow dried using a root lift product to get volume.
  • Some hair should be left straight around the front and sides.
  • Take your hair in sections and use curling tongs to curl it from halfway down to the ends.
  • Colored strand extensions for extra effect are optional depending on your choice.
  • Pin the rest of your hair up around the crown with Kirby grips, arranging them to give maximum volume and letting some curls escape down the back for a more tousled look.
  • Pull the straight strands of hair back over the 'nest' and secure.
  • You will need a strong hairspray for this high maintenance style.

Your hairdo is going to be pretty high, if you're going to match Ms. Winehouse's beehive. In case that your beehive does stack up high, avoid breezy to windy conditions, low doorways, motorcycle helmets and polo neck tops to ensure that your 'do does not encounter any accidents.
